PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - In a meet known for its strong relay races, a pair of Sooner individuals took the spotlight Saturday at the 109th Penn Relays.
Sooner freshman DaBryan Blanton ran a 10.44 to finish second in the 100-meter dash. He was just edged at the finish line as the first place time also was recorded as a 10.44.
Junior LaVerne Jones continued her solid performances in the sprints, finishing fourth in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.47.
Both times are NCAA regional qualifying marks but both runners have posted better times this season.
The men's 1600-meter relay team, which qualified for today's final by finishing 13th on Friday, did not compete and Robert Smith, the only other Sooner scheduled to compete today, failed to post a mark in the triple jump.
The Sooners will head to Austin, Texas, for the Texas Invitational next weekend.
