Gulla Earns Second Big 12 Player of the Week Honors

NORMAN, Okla. - After batting .500 in four Big 12 games for the Sooners, senior third baseman Leah Gulla was named Big 12 Player of the Week the conference office announced from Dallas on Wednesday.

Gulla had six hits in 12 at bats against Missouri and Baylor with a double, two home runs, five RBI and two runs scored. Gulla led the Sooners with 13 total bases and compiled an outstanding 1.083 slugging percentage.

The Huntington Beach, Calif., native belted the game-winning home run in OU's 5-1 win over Missouri on March 26 and added another roundtripper on March 30 in the Sooners' 3-0 win over Baylor. She is now tied with Kelli Braitsch for most home runs on the season with eight and moved to fourth on the all-time OU career home runs list with 30.

On the season, Gulla leads the team in batting average (.393), hits (42), doubles (8), RBI (37) and total bases (74). She leads the Big 12 in RBI, has the second-highest batting average in the conference and is ranked second in hits, third in home runs and second in slugging percentage.

Gulla has started 100 consecutive games for the Sooners since the beginning of the 2002 season -- the longest current streak on the team.

She was previously named NFCA National Player of the Week and Big 12 Player of the Week for her outstanding performances at the Arizona State Tournament in Tempe, Ariz., on March 6.

Gulla and the No. 4 Sooners (30-5, 6-2 Big 12) host No. 16 Oklahoma State Wednesday night at the OU Softball Complex. The Bank of Oklahoma Bedlam Game brought to you by your Oklahoma Ford Dealers is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
