AZUSA, Calif. - The second day of the Mt. Sac Multi Event proved to be just as big a challenge as the first for Sooners Dan Strong and Chaundra Allard.
Final results from the competition were delayed because of technical difficulties at the site of competition.
Strong recorded no height in the pole vault, one of his best events in the 10-event decathlon, and finished 17th with 5,218 points. Allard pulled a muscle while warming up for the long jump, the first event of the second day of the heptathlon, and was forced to withdraw.
"We had hoped for better results and things looked good in practice before we headed out here," co-head coach Jill Lancaster said. "Sometimes things just don't work out the way you think they will. We will head back to Norman, re-group and continue to prepare for the next multi event competition at the Big 12 Championship in mid May. I was encouraged that Dan came back in the final event to post a career best and Chaundra has just had some bad luck with injuries."
Strong's time in the 1500, the final event of the competition, was a 4:55.55, a career best in the event in decathlon competition by more than a second and nearly five seconds better than his best effort in the 1500 in the decathlon last year.
