NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 5 Oklahoma softball team departs today for Lubbock,
Texas, to play its last Big 12 road series of the year against Texas Tech. The
Sooners play the Red Raiders on Friday, April 18, at 3 p.m. with the series concluding
on Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m.
Texas Tech is 16-36 overall and 3-11 in conference play. The Red Raiders dropped
two games at Nebraska, 6-0, and 5-1, in their most recent Big 12 action last weekend.
Tech's three conference wins came in a split with Kansas and sweep of Baylor.
Oklahoma leads the all-time series with Texas Tech, 18-3, and has won the last
seven games between the two schools. OU won the first nine games in the series
beginning in 1977 before dropping a 1-0 game in 1998. Last season, OU swept the
series in Norman by 3-1 and 4-0 scores.
In the last meeting on March 29, 2002, Sooner pitcher Angela Foster picked up
the 4-0 win in her second complete game of the year. Foster recorded a career-high
eight strikeouts to shut down the Red Raiders.
Oklahoma senior third baseman Leah Gulla leads the Big 12 conference with an overall
batting average of .402 and has the most RBI with 41. OU sophomore lefty Kami
Keiter ranks second in the conference with a 0.74 ERA in a league-high 179.2 innings
pitched. Keiter also leads the Big 12 in wins with a 22-4 overall record.
OU has three regular-season conference games remaining on its schedule after Tech.
The Sooners play at Oklahoma State in Stillwater on April 24 in the final game
of the Bedlam series and then host Texas A&M on April 26 and 27 at the OU
Softball Complex in Norman.
The 2003 Big 12 Softball Tournament is slated to begin on Thursday, May 1, at
Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
