AZUSA, Calif. - It was a tough first day of competition for the two Sooners who are competing in the Mt. Sac Combined on Wednesday at Azusa Pacific University Stadium. Sophomore Dan Strong fought stomach problems all day and was in 17th place after the first day of competition while junior Chaundra Allard battled through a shoulder injury and was in 25th place after the ifrst day of competition in the hepathlon.

"We had hoped for better results but I was proud of the way they both kept competing," said co-head coach Jill Lancaster. "Chaundra started off with a tough race in the hurdles. She kept fighting through the challenges and she will be better in the long run for that. Dan started the day sick and he kept getting sick throughout the day. We are going to go back to the hotel, re-group and get ready for the second day. That's what the combined events are all about -- the ability to battle through each of the events, each of the days -- and the more experience they get with this kind of competition, the better they will be the next time they go out to compete in these events."

The combined event competition will continue Thursday at APU Stadium. The rest of the Sooner team will head to Waco, Texas, for the Michael Johnson/SBC Invitational this weekend.
