NORMAN, Okla. - No. 5 Oklahoma made short order of visiting Oklahoma City
by defeating the Stars, 11-2, in five innings at a wind-whipped OU Softball Complex
in Norman Tuesday evening.
The Sooners (33-8, 8-5 Big 12) amassed 15 hits including five doubles, two triples
and a home run to run-rule OCU and send the anxious fans home early in advance
of approaching thunderstorms.
Senior centerfielder Erin
Evans (2-for-2) collected her fifth roundtripper of the season in the second
inning. Evans was one of five Sooners who recorded multiple hits. Freshman righfielder
Kristin
Vesely (2-for-3) led off for the Sooners and belted her fourth double of the
season in the fourth inning. Freshman Lori
Shimasaki (2-for-2) hit her first double as a Sooner and sophomore rightfielder
Jessica Leslie (2-for-2) also notched a double. Sophomore catcher Heather
Scaglione went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.
Junior shortstop Katie
Overton (1-for-1) hit the first triple of her career in the second inning
with two RBI.
Freshman Nicole Denes moved to 5-0 with the victory from the mound. Denes fanned
two batters while walking three and giving up two earned runs in four innings.
Freshman Dana Askins finished the final stanza in the circle and struck out two
batters in the top of the fifth to end the game.
Oklahoma's 15 hits tied a season high. OU also had 15 hits against Cal Riverside
in five innings and Arizona State in nine innings in Tempe, Ariz., earlier in
the season. The game against OCU marked the eighth double-digit hit game for the
Sooners and the third double-digit run game this spring.
Okahoma moved to 38-13 all-time against OCU and won its fifth consecutive in the
series.
The Sooners resume Big 12 play in Lubbock on Friday, April 18 at 3 p.m. against
the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The series concludes on Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m.
