BATON ROUGE, La. - While they shared a win, a disappointing indoor season came to an end Friday night for four Sooner pole vaulters as none of the four posted an NCAA qualifying mark at the LSU National Qualifier.
Junior Leslie Dunlap, a 2002 NCAA Outdoor All-American, won the women's division with a vault of 12-5.50. That mark was nearly three inches less than her season best of 12-8.25 and well short of the NCAA provisional mark.
The Sooner men who traveled to Baton Rouge, seniors Robin Hanna and Michael Westlund and sophomore Austin Landreth, tied for first in the men's vault with a 16-4.75. The mark was well under the NCAA provisional qualifying mark and brought an end to a season that saw each of the men battle injuries that kept them from reaching their previous best marks.
Several Sooners are in Ames for the Iowa State Qualifier which will be held on Saturday. Looking to improve or post NCAA marks at that meet are Tiffany Davis in the 60-meter hurdles; Aisha Stringer in the 800-meter run; Aldwyn Sappleton in the 800-meter run and the men's 1600-meter relay of Sappleton, Dwayne Duhaney, L'eron George and Robert Smith. Davis, Stringer and Sappleton all have NCAA provisional marks to their credit while the 1600-meter relay will be trying to battle through injuries to post a qualifying mark for the first time this season.
