No. 4 Oklahoma Splits Series At No. 5 Nebraska

Lincoln, Neb. - Nebraska dealt No. 4 Oklahoma an 8-0 loss as the teams split their series in Lincoln on Thursday afternoon. OU beat the Huskers, 1-0, in the opening game of the twinbill.

Oklahoma (25-4, 1-1 Big 12) endured its first loss in 18 games and failed to score a run for the first time this season.

OU started the game with freshman Dana Askins on the mound, then replaced Askins with freshman Nicole Denes in the fourth inning. Denes lasted one frame before sophomore Kami Keiter took over and finished the game for the Sooners.

Askins gave up three runs on three hits while walking one and fanning one batter in 3.0 innings. In her one inning, Denes allowed four runs on three hits which prompted Keiter's appearance. Keiter allowed one run on three hits while walking two and striking out three in the final 1.2 innings of the game.

The No. 5 Cornhuskers (19-5, 1-1 Big 12) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first stanza when Amanda Buchholz belted a two-run homer over the right field wall. NU added a run in the third when Buchholz hit her second roundtripper of the game.

Nebraska scored two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings and run-ruled the Sooners with a final score in the bottom of the sixth to win 8-0.

Oklahoma mustered seven hits but left eight players on base. Nebraska stranded seven.

OU must regroup quickly as the Sooners travel to No. 24 Kansas for a weekend series in Lawrence. First pitch is Saturday at 2 p.m. from Jayhawk Field.
