Davis Posts NCAA Provisional Mark At Sooner Indoor

NORMAN, Okla. - OU senior Tiffany Davis ran a season best of 8.41 to finish second in the 60-meter hurdles at the Sooner Indoor today at the Mosier Indoor Facility. The time is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark for Davis and solidifies her ranking in the Big 12. She entered the day tied for fifth and now has fifth place by herself.

Davis' mark was one of six provisionals posted in the final home indoor meet of the season for OU. It also was the final meet before most conference championship meets across the country.

SMU'S Zivile Pukstiene posted the lone NCAA automatic mark with a 43-2.25 in the triple jump. The mark also set a meet record.

Other NCAA provisional marks were posted by Shaneatra Neely of Arkansas, who won the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.36; LaVada Hill of Southern Methodist and Angel Heath of Arkansas in the long jump, and Nevena Lendel of Southern Methodist and Jessica Johnson of Arkansas in the high jump.

For the Sooner men, Dwayne Duhaney won the 600-yard run with a 1:11.88. Brontez Steele finished third in the event.

Other top performances for the Sooners included a second place finish by Lameisa Thomas in the 600 yard run with a season best time of 1:25.49; fourth, fifth and sixth place finish by Kelsey Moore, Veronica Clayborne and Myria Houlihan in the high jump; a season best of 12-8.25 in the pole vault for a second place finish by Leslie Dunlap; a second place finish in the triple jump by Lucretia Rimmer; a third place finish by Megan Crystal in the shot put; fourth and sixth place finishes by DaBryan Blanton and L'eron George in the 60-meter dash; a fourth place finish in the mile by Jimmy Buchanan with a season best 4:20.80; and a sixth place finish in the pole vault by Robin Hanna.

Former Sooners Danny McFarlane (400), Jerome Douglas (triple jump) and Michael McNamara (pole vault) were also winners today.

OU will leave Wednesday for the seventh annual Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships in Lincoln, Neb. Action begins Friday. Two Sooners, Dunlap and Aldwyn Sappleton (600), are defending conference champions.
