Softball Douses Blazers, 7-0

Norman, Okla. - OU powered to a 7-0 win over UAB in the Sooners home opener in the OU/Nike Classic on Friday afternoon.

The Sooners (4-1) scored five runs in the first inning and two more in the sixth to seal the victory.

Leah Gulla (1-for-4) singled to plate Erin Evans (1-for-4) to begin the scoring in the bottom of the first for OU. Sophomore Kami Keiter (1-for-3) homered to drive in Heather Scaglione and Leah Gulla and put the Sooners up early, 4-0.

After Jennifer Stump walked to first and Aprl Valdez (1-for-3) doubled to left field, Tiffany Weight singled to score Stump.

Oklahoma would sit on the 5-0 lead until two runs in the bottom of the sixth put the Sooners up, 7-0.

Senior second baseman Tiffany Weight was walked to first, then advanced to second on a pass ball. Erin Evans grounded out to the pitcher as Weight advanced to third. Senior shortstop Kelli Braitsch (1-for-2) singled to right field and Weight scored to extend OU's lead to 6-0.

Freshman pitcher Dana Askins (1-for-1) doubled to left center field allowing Braitsch to record OU 's final run of the night.

Kami Keiter (4-0) recorded the win for the Sooners and threw six innings, allowing just two hits to 21 batters faced. She struck out three UAB batters. Keiter led OU with three RBI, one run, one hit and three assists.

Kelli Thompson took the loss for the Blazers to fall to 0-1.
