NORMAN, Okla.- The Oklahoma softball team rolled in two games during the OU fall Festival Friday evening. The Sooners run-ruled Neosho 13-3 in their opener and whacked Connors State 17-0 in the final game of the night at the OU Softball Complex.
A pair of RBIs by juniors Christina Enea and Heather Scaglione put the Sooners up 2-0 in the first inning. A two run blast by Jamie Fox hit the scoreboard and put the Sooners up 4-0 with no outs in the second. Norrelle Dickson would score on a wild pitch and run the score to 5-0.
The long ball would net the Sooners four more runs in the third and fourth. A two run blast by Stacia Aleman plated Alison Horne to begin the third frame. Not to be outdone by the Sooner rookies, junior Jessica Leslie blasted a two run dinger to left field putting the Sooners up 10-0 at the end of four. The Sooners would add three runs in the sixth and run rule Neosho 13-3 for the easy victory.
Junior pitcher Kami Keiter worked six innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits. Keiter had eight punch-outs and picked up her fourth win of the fall season. Dickson, who is leaving to compete with the junior national team at the ISF World Championships on Saturday, went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two stolen bases.
Dickson began the second game with a leadoff single and pair of stolen bases. The catcher's throw sailed into left field as Dickson swiped third, allowing the freshman to trot home and give OU an early 1-0 lead. Back-to-back doubles by Marie Mena and Nicole Denes put the OU offense in gear in the second innning. Senior Nikki Holt followed with a run-scoring single that brought home Denes.
OU began the third inning with five consecutive hits and scored three runs on RBIs by Mena, Aleman and Fox. The Sooners continued to pile up the runs, scoring three in the fourth and eight in the fifth inning. Nicole Denes hit a three-run homer that marked the end of the offensive onslaught at 17-0.
Junior catcher Heather Scaglione was perfect on the night, going 3-for-3 with six RBIs. She hit a three-run blast in the fourth inning and a two-run double in the fifth.
