Softball Wins Twice at Fall Festival

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma softball successfully opened its fall schedule with wins over Oklahoma Christian and Neosho at the OU Fall Festival on Friday.

Senior Kelli Braitsch (Broken Arrow, Okla.) doubled to drive in freshman Dana Askins (Moore, Okla.) in the third frame for the Sooners lone score in a 1-0 win over Oklahoma Christian.

Later in the evening, the Sooners' 8-2 win over Neosho was highlighted by a home run in the sixth for Braitsch.

OU freshman Lori Shimasaki (Edmond, Okla.) began the scoring in the third with a single to bring in freshman Mariee Mena (Escondido, Calif.). Braitsch would score later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by senior Leah Gulla (Huntington Beach, Calif.).

With Oklahoma up 2-0, Mena scored on an error by the Neosho catcher.

The Sooners put five runs on the board in the sixth frame including Braitsch's homer to seal the win.

Oklahoma returns to action on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. at the OU Softball Complex against Hill. The Sooners play St. Gregory's at 2:30 p.m. and Murray at 7 p.m.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children from five to high school and free for OU students with valid ID.
