Softball Places Seven Members On All-Big 12 Teams

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - At the Big 12 Softball pre-tournament banquet Thursday afternoon, seven Oklahoma softball players were named to the All-Big 12 Team while five more garnered all-conference academic honors. Junior Kelli Braitsch was selected as the first team shortstop for the second straight year and senior leftfielder Christy Ring, junior third baseman Leah Gulla and freshman first baseman Christina Enea each were chosen as at large selections. On the second team, freshmen Kami Keiter and Heather Scgalione as well as senior pitcher Jennifer Stewart, who made the All-Big 12 team for the fourth consecutive year as a second team at-large selection.

After walking away from last year's ceremony with the Player of the Year award, Braitsch took away her second first team selection this year after finishing in the top 10 in seven offensive categories. In league games only, the Broken Arrow, Okla., native recorded a .315 batting average, seven runs scored, five home runs and 10 RBI. She was also one of the five Sooners to acheive All-Big 12 academic honors with her first selection to the second team.

One of three four-time All-Big 12 honorees selected this year at the ceremony, Ring topped the league in stolen bases and finished third in runs scored while posting a .273 average.

Gulla and Enea both captured their first all-conference honors by finishing among the league leaders in several offensive categories. Enea led the team in batting average at .328 while her 14 RBI were good enough for second in the conference. Gulla batted .224, scored 10 runs, hit five home runs and plated 12 runs in conference play while also performing as one of the top defensive third basemen in the league.

Keiter and Scaglione, the Sooners' other two freshmen stars, made their mark in the Big 12 after completing solid first seasons. Keiter, who was selected as a utility player, earned her distinction after posting a 5-1 record with one save in conference action and also hitting .242 at the plate with three runs scored and seven RBI. As the second team catcher, Scaglione finished fourth on the team in hitting in conference play at .261 and also contributed nine runs scored, three home runs and four RBI.

Stewart capped off her final season with her fourth straight honor after picking up first team selections in her previous three seasons. The Yukon, Okla., product tied Keiter's team-best mark at 5-1 and complimented it with a 1.42 ERA. She also appeared among the league leaders in six pitching categories.

Junior centerfielder Erin Evans headlined the Sooners' Academic All-Big 12 selections as she was named to the first team for the third straight year. Three sophomores, Lindsey Abbott, Kaycee Clark and Katie Overton, joined Evans on the first team, while Braitsch picked up her second honor of the afternoon by being selected to the second team.
