Three Sooners Headline All-Midwest Region Softball Team

NORMAN, Okla. - On the verge of hosting their third consecutive NCAA Softball Regional Tournament, the 13th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners had three members named to the All-Midwest Region first team as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association today. Junior shortstop Kelli Braitsch and senior leftfielder Christy Ring both garnered the second first team all-region selections of their career, while freshman utility player Christina Enea added the first team honors to her impressive list of accompishments in her first season. The three Oklahoma picks were the most garnered by any one team on the first team list.

Braitsch, who also racked up first team All-Big 12 and Big 12 All-Tournament accolades recently, was picked as the first team shortstop for the second straight year. The Broken Arrow, Okla., native ranks in the top 10 in the league in hits, runs scored, total bases and on base percentage as well as in the top five of every team offensive category.

Ring's second first team all-region selection came on the heels of a successful senior season which saw her garner first team All-Big 12 honors for second time as well. Both of her first team all-region and all-conference honors came in the Sooners' national championship season in 2000. Ring leads the team in on base percentage and ranks in the top 10 of seven Big 12 offensive categories including stolen bases, runs scored, walks, triples, hits, on base percentage and batting average.

As one of the Sooners' freshman sensations, Enea has led the team for the majority of the season in a number of offensive categories. Enea currently leads the squad in batting average, hits, doubles and RBI. Her RBI and doubles totals lead the Big 12, while she also ranks third in batting average and hits. Enea has also received a number of other recognitions throughout the year including first team at-large All-Big 12 and being named one of 25 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year finalists.

Each Sooner will be eligible for All-American honors which will be announced on May 22 at the Women's College World Series banquet. Braitsch, Enea, Ring and the second seeded Sooners will take on fifth-seeded Utah in Game Two of the regional at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
