OU Softball To Host NCAA Regional

NORMAN, Okla. - The owner of a 45-14 record and a No. 13 national ranking, the University of Oklahoma softball team was selected as one of eight NCAA Championship Regional hosts Sunday evening. The Sooners, who will be the No. 2 seed when regional play begins Thursday at the OU Softball Complex, will face fifth-seeded Utah at 2:30 p.m. on the first day of competition. Regional play will end on Sunday with the winner advancing to the Women's College World Series May 23-27 at Don E. Porter ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City as the No. 5 seed.

The remainder of the six-team regional field in Norman will consist of No. 1 seed Texas, No. 3 seed Texas A&M, No. 4 seed Arkansas and No. 6 seed Army.

Texas and Army will start regional competition Thursday at noon and will be followed by the OU/Utah game. Texas A&M will face Arkansas at 5 p.m. while the losers of games 1 and 2 will play in an elimination contest at 7:30 p.m. to end the first day of play.

Single-session reserved tickets will cost $9 (all ages) while single-session general admission tickets will cost $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. All-session reserved tickets will cost $28 (all ages) while all-session general admission tickets will cost $24 for adults and $16 for children 12 and under. Advance tickets will be available beginning Monday, May 13 by calling the OU Athletic Ticket Office at (800) 456-4668.

This marks the fourth regional the Sooners have hosted under eighth-year head coach Patty Gasso and the third consecutive (also hosted in 1997, 2000 and 2001). The Sooners have participated in NCAA postseason play in all eight of Gasso's seasons and have advanced to the Women's College World Series the past two years.
