AMES, Iowa - In game two of the Saturday afternoon softball twinbill, No. 9 Oklahoma run-ruled Iowa State, 11-1, in five innings at the Southwest Athletic Complex. Five Sooners recorded multi-hit efforts as they pounded out 14 hits as a team. Junior centerfielder Erin Evans led the offensive attack as she had a career day at the plate by tying a career high of three hits and established a career high five RBI. Sophomore Adrianne Ratliff tossed her third complete game of the season as she held the Cyclones to one run on seven hits to improve her record to 5-0.
The Sooners exploded out of the gate scoring three runs on five hits in the top of the first inning. Oklahoma sent all nine batters to the plate and scored the first run on a RBI-double by freshman catcher Christina Enea (2-for-4) which brought junior right fielder Jennifer Stump (2-for-2) home from second after she led off the game with a double. After a walk to junior third baseman Leah Gulla (1-for-2), three consecutive base hits plated Enea and Gulla for the final two runs of the frame.
OU's offensive onslaught continued into the second inning as the Sooners tacked up two more runs on the scoreboard. Stump led off and reached base for the second straight inning on a single and senior leftfielder Christy Ring (1-for-2) followed with a single. Both baserunners scored on a single by Evans to extend OU's lead to 5-0.
As in the first inning, OU batted around in the lineup and added five more runs (all unearned) to their score to give the Sooners a 10-0 advantage. Stump reached base for the third time in a row on an error by the Cyclones' shortstop and scored her career high third run of the game on a single by Enea to begin the scoring. Enea's base hit began a string of five consecutive hits finishing off with RBI hits by junior shortstop Kelli Braitsch (3-for-4), Evans and freshman first baseman Kami Keiter (2-for-2).
Braitsch added a final run to the Sooners total with a solo shot to left field, her sixh homer of the season. Iowa State countered with a solo shot in the bottom of the frame with a home run by pinch hitter Diana Reuter (1-for-1).
The Sooners' roadtrip continues as Oklahoma hits the road for Missouri next Wednesday. OU and MU will battle in doubleheader action with game times scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m. at University Field in Columbia, Mo.
