NORMAN, Okla. - For the second time this season the Oklahoma softball team defeated the University of Tulsa in six innings Tuesday night with a 11-2 run-rule victory at the OU Softball Complex. Christina Enea (2-for-4), who was named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week earlier in the day, hit a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning with one out to give OU the necessary margin of victory. The 12th-ranked Sooners (42-12) again used several multi-run innings to put the Golden Hurricane (46-14) away after TU had cut the lead to a run early in the second frame. Departing seniors Jennifer Stewart (18-5) and Angela Foster combined for hold the Golden Hurricane to two runs on five hits on Senior Night.
OU junior rightfielder Jennifer Stump (1-for-1) went deep against TU for the third time this season as she hit a three run-homer in her first at bat to give the Sooners an early 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning. Stump, who hit two home runs in the first game at Tulsa earlier this year, plated Enea and junior third baseman Leah Gulla (2-for-3) with her eighth roundtripper of the season.
Tulsa struck back in the top of the second inning with two runs of its own. A leadoff walk and a hit batter came around to score on a triple by first baseman Lindsey Dyer (1-for-2) bring TU to within a run at 3-2. That was as close as Tulsa got the rest of the game as the Golden Hurricane failed to mount another scoring threat until the sixth inning when Foster left the bases loaded by striking out the final batter of the inning.
Four runs were tallied for the Sooners in the third inning before Tulsa starter Ami Day (19-6) recorded an out. Junior shortstop Kelli Braitsch (2-for-2) scored one of her two runs in the game after leading off the inning with a walk and being forced in on a bases loaded walk to Stump which drove in her fourth run of the game to tie her season high. A back-to-back walk to freshman catcher Heather Scaglione (2-for-2) brought home another run and junior centerfielder Erin Evans (1-for-2) accounted for the other two runs on a two-run double to give the Sooners a 7-2 advantage.
Evans drove in another run in the fifth inning when her pop out foul to the third baseman drove in Stump for her third run of the game.
The Sooners' attention now turns to the Big 12 Conference Tournament on Thursday when OU meets the winner of the Kansas-Texas Tech game at 7:30 p.m. at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
