Christina Enea Awarded Big 12 Player of the Week Honor

NORMAN, Okla. - After singling in the dramatic game-winning runs against Oklahoma State and leading the Oklahoma softball team in hitting last week, Christina Enea was was chosen as the Big 12 Conference Softball Player of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. In addition to her 3-for-5 performance against the Cowgirls, Enea also recorded a 3-for-4 effort on Sunday against Baylor to increase her team-leading multi-hit games to 18. For the week, she batted .429 with a run scored and three RBI and her performances helped the Sooners sweep their final two conference series to lock up a second place conference finish. The versatile freshman began the week starting the first two games at first base before moving behind the plate for the series finale against No. 22 Baylor on Sunday.

Against OSU, Enea helped lead OU to their second thrilling victory over the Cowgirls this season. Early in the game, Enea scored on the front on junior third baseman Leah Gulla's two-run homer which gave the Sooners' their first lead at 3-2 over the Cowgirls. Then in the 10th inning with Oklahoma State leading 4-3, she drove in the game-winning runs with a two-RBI single to give Oklahoma the thrilling 5-4 victory over its Bedlam rival. It marked the second time this season that Enea has driven home the game-winning runs over Oklahoma State.

On Sunday against Baylor, she collected half of the team's hits and smacked her league-leading 19th double off the left field wall to plate the Sooners' second run of the game.

Enea's weekly conference honor was the fourth straight the Sooners have collected and fifth overall on the year. Freshman pitcher Kami Keiter, freshman catcher Heather Scaglione, junior centerfielder Erin Evans and senior pitcher Jennifer Stewart have all received conference player/pitcher of the week distinctions this season.
