Kansas Head Coach Tracy Bunge
On the win:
"Oklahoma looked like they were going to break it open in the beginning. However, they let us hang around which allowed us to gain confidence. We had big plays made in big situations."

On pitcher Serena Settlemier's performance:
"This was one of her best performances. Every outing she has continued to improve and make big adjustments. The best part is that she is a freshman and will become even better."

Oklahoma Head Coach Patty Gasso
Overall thoughts on the game:
"We didn't get anything clutch. I give the credit to Kansas for getting the clutch hits when they needed to. We scored early and that is one of our missions. We always try to get on the board early and we did that. We played good defensively, we just needed some timely hitting. I don't think we played incredibly bad, because we did hit some balls to the fence. We just didn't get the timely hits when we needed them and that has really been the story for any kind of losses that we've had."

On the rest of the tournament:
"The beauty of this tournament is that it is double elimination and we still have opportunity and a chance. We will get to see tomorrow what the Sooners are made of and what kind of heart they have."

Game Recap
Seventh-seeded Kansas upset second-seeded Oklahoma in first-day action of the Big 12 Softball Tournament, 3-1. The Sooners scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning when Kelli Braitsch crossed the plate on a passed ball and looked to be in control as pitcher Jennifer Stewart held KU scoreless through four innings. The Jayhawks took the lead in the top of the fifth, though, on a Shelly Musser two-out, two-run double. Kansas added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Dani May singled in pinch runner Melanie Wallach. KU freshman pitcher Serena Settlemier earned the complete-game victory, giving up six hits and two walks while striking out three. The OU run was unearned. Settlemier improved to 12-7 on the season. Stewart pitched six innings and surrendered all three KU runs on five hits and two walks. Her record fell to 18-6. Kami Keiter threw one inning of relief and allowed a hit. The Sooners, 42-13, will face Iowa State Friday at 11:30 a.m. while Kansas, 33-23, will play at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of the Nebraska-Oklahoma State game.
