Baylor's Joni Miller threw a one-hit gem in the 4-0 win over Oklahoma State Friday afternoon. Miller's one-hitter is the second of this year's tournament (UT's Cat Osterman and Amy Bradford teamed for one Thursday versus Iowa State) and the seventh since 1996. The Bears were also aggressive on the bases, stealing four in the game. Baylor scored two runs in the first inning thanks to an RBI-double by Sarah Caudle and an RBI-single by Kristen Lancaster. The Bears put the game on ice in the sixth with two more runs that came courtesy of a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly. Oklahoma State's Lauren Bay struck out three Bears in 5.2 innings of relief and now has 314 strikeouts this year to set the Cowgirl season record for strikeouts (1993 - Melanie Roche, 310). Baylor will face the loser of today's Texas-Texas A&M game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Baylor Head Coach Glenn Moore
On the win:
"I thought it took a lot of character to bounce back after losing the way we did this morning. I am very pleased with Joni Miller's performance against a very good hitting team. It was nice for her to be able to pitch with some runs on the scoreboard, which is something we haven't done in a while. We also played a great defensive game. We played today like we are capable of playing."
On next game:
"We were upset after losing in the first round and we told our girls they need to stay angry when they play their next game. We need to have good pitching, make some breaks and play Baylor softball."
Oklahoma State Head Coach Margaret Rebenar
On the tournament:
"I felt good coming into this weekend and I thought our offense was going to be productive. But that just wasn't the case."
On the Baylor game:
"I thought the pitching was there but, unfortunately, Baylor came up with some timely hits when they needed them."
On the NCAA Tournament:
"Our fate is in the hands of the committee. We've been thinking in a positive manner because we lost some very close games to some good teams this year. I just hope the committee recognizes this when they make their selections. We are also in a conference were just about every team should get some consideration."
