Softball Closes Out Season With Home Finale Against Tulsa

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma softball team will honor its three departing seniors Tuesday night as the 12th-ranked Sooners close out the regular season against Tulsa at the OU Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with the senior ceremony occurring just prior to the start of the game.

The game is the second in a two-game set played between the two teams this season. In a wild six inning affair which bounced back and forth through the first three innings, then-ninth ranked Oklahoma defeated Tulsa, 14-6, in front of 1,048 fans at the Hardesty Sports Complex in Tulsa at the end of March. The two teams scored 14 of the game's 20 runs in the first three innings as OU scored six runs over the next three innings to secure the six inning run-rule victory. Junior rightfielder Jennifer Stump crushed two home runs in the game, one coming in OU's key seven-run second inning in which it took the lead for good.

Oklahoma (41-12, 14-2 Big 12) concludes its regular season tomorrow night after wrapping up a second place finish in the Big 12 Conference this past weekend. With the exception of a series loss to Texas, OU swept through the conference field with seven league series victories, including its most recent two-game sweep of No. 22 Baylor last weekend. First baseman/catcher Christina Enea finished her freshman campaign leading the Sooners in hitting in all games and league contests at .368 and .328, respectively. Enea's team-leading totals also include 51 RBI, 60 hits and 19 doubles. Senior Jennifer Stewart, who will be making her final appearance at home, leads the pitching staff in wins with a 17-5 record and has put up a 1.71 ERA for the staff that has combined for a 1.32 ERA.

Since OU's 14-6 win, Tulsa has gone 15-10 the remainder of the season to enter Tuesday night's game at 44-13 overall. Centerfielder Jessie Smith leads the Golden Hurricane offense with a .359 batting average and is followed close behind by third baseman Chrissy Strimple at .310 and who hit one of her team-leading seven home runs in the first game against OU this season. In the circle, TU relies upon the pitching duo of Jenny Magill and Ami Day who have split the majority of starting assignments at 22 starts apiece. Magill (17-7) owns the better ERA at 0.97, while Day (1.30 ERA) has one more win on the season at 18-5. OU faced both Day and Magill in the first game as Day took the loss after she gave up 12 of the 14 runs.

The game will be broadcast on KREF 1400 with Brian Brinkley and Amy Lawrence calling the action. OU binoculars and $.50 hot dogs and Cokes will be the special promotions during the season finale.
