NORMAN, Okla. - Kami Keiter did it all Saturday afternoon as the freshman tossed a no-hitter and hit her first career home run in No. 9 Oklahoma's 8-0 win over Creighton in the OU/Worth Invitational. Keiter only allowed a walk, hit batter and a fielder's choice in her second complete game of the season as she also hit her first career home run. Keiter's three-run shot added to OU's (22-5) 3-0 lead in the third inning en route to the run-rule of the Bluejays (6-7).
"I thought Kami Keiter did tremendous tonight," commented Head Coach Patty Gasso. "Her last outing was disappointing and she wanted to come out today and make a statement."
"I wanted to give her an opportunity to hit because I had recuited her as a hitter, but she hasn't really had an opportunity yet this season. She definitely took advantage of her opportunity today."
The Sooners plated runs in the first three innings, including four in the third. Junior third baseman Leah Gulla (1-for-2) drew a two-out walk in the first inning, was moved to second base on a single by freshman catcher Christina Enea (1-for-2) before junior rightfielder Jennifer Stump (1-for-3) singled Gulla home.
OU chalked up another run in the next inning when Keiter reached base on an error by the Bluejays' second baseman and moved to third base on a single by junior centerfielder Erin Evans (2-for-3) and a error by the Creighton third baseman. Senior leftfielder Christy Ring's (0-for-2) sacrifice fly scored Keiter two batters later.
Keiter's three-run blast, part of a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, capped off a four run third inning. Freshman designated player Heather Scaglione (2-for-3) hit a two run homer in the next frame to give the Sooners the necessary advantage for the run-rule.
OU concludes tournament play with a 2:30 p.m. rematch against the Bluejays at the OU Softball Complex.
