Sooner Softball Trounces Wichita State, 12-1

NORMAN, Okla. - The ninth-ranked Oklahoma softball team used a nine run second inning to open up a large lead and run-rule their second opponent of the day with a 12-1 victory over Wichita State in the OU/Worth Invitational on Friday evening. Two of freshman catcher Christina Enea's three hits in the game went for home runs to give her three home runs on the day including her grand slam home run in the first game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. With two runs scored in the game, senior leftfielder Christy Ring (2-for-3) became OU's all-time leader in runs scored with her 182nd career run scored. Adrianne Ratliff captured her fourth win on the mound for the 21-5 Sooners. Wichita State fell to 7-12 on the year with the loss.

After plating an unearned run in the first inning, the Sooners exploded for nine runs in the second inning. Eight of the 12 Sooner batters collected a hit including six straight to plate six of the runs with only one out in the frame. Enea accounted for four of the runs as she led off with a solo homer and came around in her second at bat of the frame to nail a three-run shot to cap off the scoring in the inning.

Freshman designated player Heather Scaglione (2-for-3) also got in on the home run act in the game as she led off the third inning with a solo shot of her own. The Sooners plated a second run in the inning with two outs when Ring singled and came around to score on junior third baseman Leah Gulla's (2-for-3) double in the next at bat.

Oklahoma plays a single game tomorrow against Creighton at 3:30 p.m. at the OU Softball Complex.
