NORMAN, Okla. - In game one of a twilight doubleheader on Friday, No. 9 Oklahoma dropped Texas Tech, 3-1, in the Sooners' Big 12 Conference home opener at the OU Softball Complex. Junior rightfielder Jennifer Stump (1-for-3) started off the three-run third inning with a solo homer, her third home run in the last two games. Jennifer Stewart improved to 14-3 on the season as Oklahoma ran its record to 30-8 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Texas Tech fell to 10-25 overall and 0-5 in league play.

"Jennifer Stewart threw well and is starting to pick up her game," commented OU Head Coach Patty Gasso following the game. "I really liked having Jennifer Stump in the lead off. That has been a good spot for us."

Texas Tech jumped on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. Tech rightfielder Tiffany Harrington (1-for-2) hit a one-out double and scored on an error by OU first baseman Katie Overton (0-for-2).

In the bottom of the frame, Oklahoma answered with the three winning runs. Stump sent a solo shot to left field, which cleared both fences in the Complex, to plate the first run. The next two runs came as senior leftfielder Christy Ring (1-for-3) followed Stump with a single and scored from second two batters later on a base hit by junior third baseman Leah Gulla (1-for-3). Gulla would reach third base on a single to right field by junior shortstop Kelli Braitsch (1-for-2) and round third on an error by the Red Raider shortstop to notch the third run of the inning.

Stewart surrendered only three hits and one run (unearned) in tossing her ninth complete game of the season. The senior lefty faced more than one batter over the minimum in only one of the seven innings.
