No. 7 Oklahoma Cruises To 4-2 Win Over Connecticut

MIAMI, Fla. - Sophomore Adrianne Ratliff turned in a solid complete game performance for the seventh-ranked Oklahoma softball team as the Sooners defeated Connecticut, 4-2, Saturday morning in their first contest of the day in the Golden Panther Invitational. Ratliff picked up her third win and first complete game of the year as she scattered six hits while striking out five. Oklahoma only needed four early scores to preserve the win as its record improved to 17-3 and 3-0 in the Florida International-hosted event.

OU jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two runs each in the second and third innings. With runners on second and third in the second inning, freshman designated player Heather Scaglione (1-for-2) singled to plate both runners. In the third frame, junior third baseman Leah Gulla (2-for-4) collected her second straight hit in the game when she led off with a double and came around to score on junior rightfielder Jennifer Stump's (1-for-1) single in the next at bat. Stump scored in the following at bat on a double by freshman catcher Christina Enea (1-for-4).

UConn climbed back into the game in the fourth inning when they scored a pair of unearned runs. After OU starter Adrianne Ratliff (3-0) allowed the first two batters to reach base, the Sooner defense eliminated the two runners on consecutive put outs at second base on the front ends of fielder's choices. With two outs and a runner on first, an error by Gulla put runners on first and second and kept the inning alive. Two consecutive base hits by the Huskies brought the runners home to close the gap in the game to 4-2.

Oklahoma wills face No. 20 Florida Atlantic in its second game on the day which is scheduled for a 3 p.m. (EST) start time.
