FULLERTON, Calif. - Sixth-ranked Oklahoma suffered its second shut out of the day as ninth-ranked Cal State Fullerton Titans blanked the Sooners, 6-0, in thier evening tilt of Thursday's action in the Kia Klassic. The Sooners were only to muster three hits off of Fullerton starting pitcher Gina Oaks (12-2), while the Titans scored four of their runs off of home runs. Oklahoma starting pitcher Jennifer Stewart (9-3) was charged with the loss after giving up all three home runs as the Sooners fell to 23-7 overall.
Fullerton catcher Jenny Topping, who hit one of the two solo home runs, was responsible for a second run when, in the third frame, pinch runner Heather Saltarelli (running for Topping) scored from first base on a double by CSUF first baseman Monica Lucatero (1-for-3) to give the Fullerton a 2-0 lead.
After loading the bases in the fourth frame, a diving stop by junior second baseman Tiffany Weight (1-for-3) allowed the Titans' third run to score, but prevented further damage by holding the hit to an infield single.
The Sooners best scoring opportunity came in the third inning when junior centerfielder Erin Evans (1-for-2) singled and moved around to third base on an error on a ball put in play by Weight. Evans was left stranded at third when the Titans managed to get out of the inning on a strikeout and a groundout to the pitcher.
Oklahoma takes on its final pool opponent Rutgers tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. at the Titan Softball Complex on the Cal State Fullerton campus.
