COLUMBUS, Ga. - In a rematch of last year's Women's College World Series match-up, No. 4 Oklahoma faced No. 10 Michigan at the NFCA Leadoff Classic and fell, 1-0, to the Wolverines Saturday night. Michigan pitcher Marissa Young (3-2) was the difference in the game as she tossed a one-hitter against Oklahoma while striking out 11. OU fell to 13-2 on the year, while UM moved to 6-3.
Freshman hurler Kami Keiter (3-1) suffered the loss for OU, but turned in a fine pitching performance of her own. Keiter worked the entire game giving up the only run, which was unearned, six hits and striking out three.
An error charged to OU first baseman Katie Overton (0-for-1) allowed Wolverine rightfielder Kelsey Kollen (0-for-3) to reach first base. Two singles in the inning moved Kollen around the bases to score the lone Michigan run.
OU mounted a small scoring threat in the top of the sixth inning when pinch hitter Jessica Leslie (1-for-1) broke up the no-hitter with a single with one out. Junior second baseman Tiffany Weight (0-for-2) followed with a fielder's choice, putting Leslie out at second, and senior leftfielder Christy Ring (0-for-2) drew a walk in the next at bat. With runners on first and second and two out, junior centerfielder Erin Evans (0-for-3) ended the inning on a strikeout.
The Sooners will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 8 a.m. Sunday morning in an elimination game.
