Oklahoma Drops Drake, 15-0, In Five Innings

NORMAN, Okla. - The seventh-ranked Oklahoma softball team defeated Drake, 15-0, in a five inning run-rule affair in their first of two games on Saturday in the OU/Nike Classic at the OU Softball Complex. The Sooners, who had hit eight home runs in six games heading into the contest, hit four roundtrippers in the game to score over half of their runs. Junior centerfielder Erin Evans hit two home runs, while junior rightfielder Jennifer Stump and freshman first baseman Heather Scaglione also went deep for the Sooners. Oklahoma improved its record to 7-0 on the season, while Drake fell to 0-3 on the year.

Oklahoma opened up the large lead in the third inning as the Sooners batted around in the lineup and spotted 10 runs, six coming courteousy of three home runs. Scaglione (2-for-3) began the home run hitting barrage with a three-run shot that cleared the complex. Oklahoma then went on to score seven more runs with two out in the frame beginning with Evans' second second roundtripper of the game, another two-run blast, and two batters later Stump (1-for-2) hit a two-run homer.

Evans put the Sooners on the board first in the first inning with her first home run of the game, a two-run shot. Later in the same inning, freshman Christina Enea (4-for-4) singled home Stump, who had reached second base by walking and stealing second, to help OU grab an early 3-0 lead.

Enea completed her four-hit performance with a RBI-double in the fifth frame to tally the Sooners' final run of the game.

Freshman Kami Keiter, who started the game for the Sooners, and sophomore Adrianne Ratliff (2-0) both threw two shutout innings before senior Angela Foster came on in the fifth to pitch the final inning.
