NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma softball wrapped up its fall schedule by blanking
Southwestern State, 9-0 and 3-0, in a doubleheader at Reaves Park in Norman on
Tuesday evening.
The Sooners got off to a booming start when leadoff hitter Kelli Braitsch (Broken
Arrow, Okla.) blasted a home run in the bottom of the first inning to put Oklahoma
up, 1-0.
Southwestern State walked Kristen Vesely (Phoenix, Ariz.) and the freshman stole
second and third before being brought in on a home run by senior Leah Gulla (Huntington
Beach, Calif.).
OU would hold the 3-0 lead through the third inning until a double by Christina
Enea (Woodland Hills, Calif.) brought in Vesely for her second run of the night.
Oklahoma added to its lead in the fourth when Vesely got a home run and brought
in Braitsch to go up 6-0 on the Bulldogs.
In the bottom of the fifth, a single by Lori Shimasaki (Edmond, Okla.) ran in
Leah Gulla and OU won on the run rule, 9-0, when Braitsch doubled to bring in
Nikki Holt (Camarillo, Calif.) and Shimasaki.
In the second game, Oklahoma got runs in the first and third innings to outlast
Southwestern State, 3-0, and complete its fall schedule with the win.
Kelli Braitsch again got the Sooners on the board in the first inning when she
ran in off a triple from Leah Gulla.
In the bottom of the third, Kristen Vesely brought in Lori Shimasaki and Heather
Scaglione brought in Christina Enea for the final run of the night.
OU opens its 2003 spring schedule in Gainesville, Fla. at the University of Florida
Tournament on Feb. 7-9. The Sooners open at home by hosting the OU/Nike Classic
on Feb. 14-16 in Norman.
