NORMAN, Okla. - Just two weeks into the fall season, the Oklahoma softball team will compete against some of the top collegiate teams from the state in the Oklahoma Shootout this weekend (Sept. 14-16) at Oklahoma City's Hall of Fame Stadium. The tournament, which is sponsored by the Amateur Softball Association, will feature 11 other collegiate teams from Oklahoma, including 2001 NAIA champ Oklahoma City. The Sooners are scheduled to face the Stars in their first game on Friday, Sept. 14, at 5 p.m.

Oklahoma returns to the event to defend their tournament title which they have owned for the last two years. The Sooners are slated to play two games each on Saturday and Sunday. OU will face ECU at noon on Saturday followed by a 2 p.m. contest against Oklahoma Christian. The Sooners then wrap up tournament competition against Carl Albert and UCO on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.

"We've only been back practicing for about a week, so we haven't had much of a chance to play yet," commented OU Head Coach Patty Gasso. "This will certainly be a good test for us."

"We'll use this opportunity as a learning experience for the team and a good guiding tool for me," added Gasso, who enters her eighth season at the helm of the Sooner program. "We plan on working some of the players at new positions and it will give the freshmen a chance to put on their Sooner uniforms for the first time."

Other teams slated to appear in the tournament are Bacone, Northeast State, Oklahoma State, Saint Gregory's, Tulsa and USAO. Fans may bring an empty Coca-Cola product to the games to receive $1 off admission price. For more information on the event, please call (405) 424-5266.
