Nebraska vs. Oklahoma State Recap

Fifth-seeded Oklahoma State upset No. 1 seed Nebraska to advance in the winner's bracket of the 2001 Big 12 Softball Tournament. The win was OSU's second as lower seed on the day as the Cowgirls defeated No. 4 Kansas 2-1 earlier in the day.

OSU posted only the second shutout of Nebraska on the season (the Huskers also fell to Washington 3-0 on March 4). Oklahoma State scored two runs in the top of the first off of Husker starter Peaches James, who carried a 26-inning scoreless streak into the contest. James fell to 15-5 on the season and had her winning streak end at 11 games.

Oklahoma State centerfielder Danielle Thomas walked to open the game and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jenny Kipp. Cowgirl Amanda Hayes then singled to left advancing Thomas to third. Thomas scored when Husker catcher Amber Burgess overthrew third base during a rundown. Hayes ended up scoring on a sacrifice fly to center by catcher Ryan Realmuto.

Oklahoma State's Tiffany Paper gave up only three hits and went the distance. Paper struck out eight Huskers in the game to improve to 7-7 on the season. Oklahoma State, now 26-22, plays Texas A&M at 7:30 Friday night. Nebraska, 48-12, plays Kansas in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m.
