Texas A&M senior Tiffany Esters hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second off of Iowa State starter Jen Bice. Sophomore cather Selena Collins added a second solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, making the score 2-0. Texas A&M added two insurance runs in the following inning with a two-run double by Kelly Ferguson and an RBI single by Lindsay Wilhelmson to make the score 4-0 after five innings.
A&M freshman pitcher Jessica Slataper allowed only one hit in her eighth complete game of the season. Slataper struck out eight Cyclones and recorded her second shutout of 2001. Only Iowa State first baseman Kimi Yoshizawa was able to get a hit off of Slataper in the fifth.
Texas A&M enters the double-elimination portion of the tournament and faces No. 2 seed Oklahoma at 7:30 p.m. The Aggies improved to 31-17 on the season while Iowa State's ended its campaign at 14-27.
