Fifth-seeded Oklahoma State notched a mild upset of fourth-seeded Kansas in second-day play of the Big 12 Tournament.
The Cowgirls' Jade Lindly accounted for the first run of the game when she slammed a solo homer to lead off the top of the third inning. Kansas countered with a leadoff solo shot of its own, by Christi Musser, in the bottom of the fifth. But OSU's run in the top of the sixth was the final tally of the game as the Cowgirls advanced in the winner's bracket. Danielle Thomas scored from second on an Amanda Hayes single up the middle to complete the scoring. Thomas reached on a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Kansas loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth but was unable to score.
Lauren Bay tossed a complete-game five-hitter and improved to 14-10 on the season for OSU. Kansas' Kara Pierce, the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, surrendered just four hits in a complete game effort. She fell to 21-11.
Oklahoma State will take on top-seeded Nebraska at 5 p.m. while Kansas will face Baylor at 4 p.m. in an elimination game.
