NORMAN, Okla. - After a week that saw her hit .800 in three conference games, Oklahoma first baseman Lisa Carey was named the Big 12 Player of the Week it was announced by league officials on Tuesday. Nebraska' Penny Cope was chosen the Pitcher of the Week. It is the fourth time this year a Sooner has grabbed the weekly honor.

"Lisa understands that it's the crunch time of the season," said OU head coach Patty Gasso. "Being a leader and senior, she's stepping up and the team will follow her direction right into the postseason."

In the three games, four of Carey's hits were extra bases, three doubles and one home run, as she posted a 1.400 slugging percentage. She also scored five runs and had eight runs batted in for the week. In the two-game Baylor series, Carey was 5-for-5 and scored five runs. In game one, she was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

The 2000 Big 12 Player of the Year, Carey's .419 batting average is third in the Big 12. She's hitting .477 in league games, which ranks second heading into the week.

OU continues its season with a non-conference game at Tulsa on Wednesday. The Sooners and Golden Hurricane will play at 5 p.m. at the Charles Page Sports Complex in Sand Springs.
