SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Oklahoma softball team suffered its second straight defeat with a 4-1 loss at San Diego State (17-10) on Tuesday. The Sooners waited an hour to get the game started when the umpires were an hour late arriving and never seemed to find a rhythm.

San Diego State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Aztecs got three consecutive base hits and scored first on Summer Ehrsam's sacrifice fly to center. SDSU scored another two runs when Tashie Aguinaga singled to left field and there was an error on the throw to home plate.

Oklahoma (25-5) didn't get on the board until the fifth inning when Ashli Barrett homered to left. It collected only three more hits in the game with one in the fourth and two in the seventh.

In OU's last chance, the seventh inning got started with a Carey single through the left side. She was thrown out when Jennifer Stump hit a ball to third base and reached on a fielder's choice. Barrett singled to third to advance the runner, but Mandy Fulton flied out to left for the second out. With runners on first and third with two outs, Andrea Davis pinch hit for Erin Evans. The senior hit a deep ball to center that Janna Kovensky caught just inches from the fence.

Aztec starter Sandra Durazo (9-5) held the Sooners without a hit through the first 11 batters until senior Lisa Carey singled up the middle in the fourth inning. She closed out the game by limiting OU to just one run on four hits and fanned four.

OU's Adrianne Ratliff (9-2) struggled in the loss, giving up three earned runs on six hits in 3.1 innings of work. Junior Jennifer Stewart relieved Ratliff in the fourth and promptly retired the next two batters. She shut the Aztecs out the rest of the game by limiting them to just one hit, but the Sooner offense never produced the runs to get back in the game.

The Sooners return home to open Big 12 action this weekend when they host Texas A&M. The two face off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
