OU Falls To Southern Mississippi, 2-1, In Rain-Shortened Affair

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's softball team lost its second game of the season, 2-1, against Southern Mississippi in a rain-shortened, five-inning contest at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga., today. The rest of the tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Oklahoma (13-2) was done in by two Golden Eagle home runs in the bottom of the first inning by shortstop Channika Gant and first baseman Tammy Edwards.

The Sooners' lone run came in the top of fourth on an RBI double by senior catcher Andrea Davis, scoring senior third baseman Mandy Fulton.

Melissa Cundiff (6-2) picked up the victory for Southern Mississippi, which improved to 10-5 on the year, while OU freshman Adrienne Ratliff (5-1) suffered the defeat.

The Sooners head west next weekend to participate in the Hillenbrand Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. The tournament begins Friday.
