OU Downs Tulsa, Arkansas To Advance To Semi Finals

ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Oklahoma softball team picked up where it left off with another pair of wins in the Texas-Arlington/Isuzu Classic. The Sooners improved to 5-0 with a 17-1 win over Tulsa and 8-1 win against Arkansas.

The Sooners' hot bats were led by senior Lisa Carey (Topeka, Kan.) and sophomore Kelli Braitsch (Broken Arrow, Okla.). The duo accounted for 11 of OU's 27 hits on the day that included four doubles and a homerun.

Oklahoma scored eight runs on 12 hits to dominate the Lady Razorbacks. OU got on the board first when LaKesha Washington (Oklahoma City) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Erin Evans (Lawton, Okla.).

Carey led off the third inning with a double through the right side and scored on a Jennifer Stump (West Palm Beach, Fla.) sacrifice to center. Braitch's single up the middle in the fourth drove in another run. Senior Mandy Fulton (Del City, Okla.) and Braitch each doubled in the seventh and Christy Ring (Westminster, Calif.) tripled to center to drive in the final run.

Junior Jennifer Stewart (Yukon, Okla.) scattered five hits and struck out seven to raise her record to 3-0.

In the opener versus Tulsa, the Sooners needed just four innings to put 17 runs on the board. A seven-run second began with sophomore Leah Gulla's (Huntington Beach, Calif.) RBIs single through the left side. Senior Washington through the right side to drive in two runs and Ring scored Washington on a bunt back to the pitcher.

Braitcsh had her third homerun of the year--a three run shot to left center that gave OU a 10-1 lead. A seven-run fourth inning was highlighted by freshman Megan Hube's (Belair, Md.) three-run homer to left center.

Freshman Adrianne Ratliff (Claremore, Okla.) earned her second victory in as many starts. The lefty held Tulsa to only one run on two hits.

The Sooners advance to the semi-finals where they will face Texas A&M at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. If they win, they will play for the tournament championship at noon.
