Sooners Defeat Oklahoma Baptist, 9-1, In OU's Fall Festival

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma softball team began its annual Fall Festival by defeating Oklahoma Baptist, 9-1, in six innings Friday at the OU Softball Complex. The Sooners were then scheduled to play Oklahoma Christian right after the completion of the OBU game but that contest was postponed due to severe weather.
OU was led by junior Kelli Braitsch, who went 4-for-4 with two runs batted in, and its pitching combination of seniors Angela Wedlake and Jennifer Stewart. The duo limited the Bison to one run on five hits.
The Sooners trailed 1-0 going into to the bottom of the third inning but rallied with three runs in the third and four in the fourth inning to put the game away. Defensively, OBU was hurt by three erros which led to two unearned runs.
Wedlake, Oklahoma's starting pitcher, picked up the victory as she went five innings and struck out four batters. OBU's Kena Freeman suffered the loss.
Saturday's games at the OU Fall Festival will go as scheduled with the Sooners taking on Oklahoma Christian at 3 p.m. and Oklahoma Baptist again at 5 p.m. The Sooners will conclude the weekend with a pair of games against Connors State College on Sunday at noon and 2 p.m.
