Oklahoma City, Okla.-- Second-seeded Nebraska pulled a mild upset and avenged yesterday's 4-3 loss by beating top-seeded Oklahoma, 3-1, in a semifinal contest of the Big 12 Softball Tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The 18th-ranked Huskers used a six-hit complete-game effort by Leigh Ann Walker to advance to today's 3 p.m. championship game against Texas A&M. It will mark their fourth title game appearance in the five-year history of the tournament.
Nebraska scored all three of its runs in the third inning, starting with a sacrifice fly by Jamie Fuente that plated Amanda Buchholz. Kim Ogee scored the second run of the frame when she came home on an Ashli Barrett throwing error after stealing third base. The Huskers successfully executed a double steal as Jennifer Lizama came home for the team's final run.
Oklahoma countered with a run in the bottom of the third thanks to an RBI single by Andrea Davis, but Walker struck out Barrett with runners on the corners to end the inning. The Sooners threatened in the fourth and sixth innings but were unable to produce any more runs. Walker recorded 12 strikeouts to improve her record to 20-5.
OU starter Lana Moran pitched 2.2 innings and gave up two hits and all three Nebraska runs (all were unearned). Moran lost for just the second time this season and fell to 24-2.
The fourth-ranked Sooners now stand at 58-8 while Nebraska boasts a 48-19 record. NU's 48 wins tie a single-season school record.
