The top-seeded Oklahoma Sooners remained alive in the Big 12 Softball Tournament by surviving a 4-3 decision against second-seeded Nebraska in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The victory gave fourth-ranked OU a school-record-tying 58 wins against just seven losses and snapped Nebraska's season-high 15-game winning streak. The Sooners scored the first four runs of the game, two on Lisa Carey's two-run home run in the bottom of the first. It was the first baseman's third homer in as many at-bats today (she hit two out in OU's win 11-0 win versus Texas this morning).
Andrea Davis' run-scoring single plated Erin Evans in the third inning and then Davis came home on an Amanda Buchholz error to end the Sooners' scoring. The Huskers rallied for three runs in the sixth thanks to a Jennifer Lizama RBI double, an Amber Burgess RBI single and a Jenifer Williams sacrifice fly, but were shut down in order in the seventh.
OU's Jennifer Stewart, a first-team All-Big 12 selection, pitched 5.1 innings to move to 28-6 on the year. The sophomore gave up all three Nebraska runs on six hits and two walks before yielding to teammate Lana Moran. Moran threw the last 1.2 innings of hitless ball to earn her second save of the season.
Nebraska's Jenny Voss took the loss after giving up three earned runs on five hits and four walks. Her streak of innings without allowing an earned run was snapped at 52.2 innings with Carey's roundtripper. Voss fell to 20-9 on the season.
The two teams will play again at 11:30 a.m Saturday. If the Sooners beat the Huskers Saturday, they will play Texas A&M in the title game at 3 p.m.
