NORMAN, Okla. -- - The University of Oklahoma softball team completed a weekend sweep of Texas Tech with a 7-1 victory today at the OU Softball Complex. The Sooners, who are in first place in the conference with a 12-1 record, are now 48-6 for the season. Texas Tech fell to 14-30 overall and 3-6 in the conference with their second straight loss to OU.
Oklahoma jumped out to a quick start as it scored three runs in the first inning. Lead-off hitter Christy Ring walked and scored on a triple by Kelli Braitsch. Sooner catcher Ashli Barrett, who was 3-for-3 on the day, drove in Braitsch and then centerfielder Erin Evans singled to score junior Lisa Carey, who had walked to reach base.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Sooners tallied their final four runs of the game. Ring walked again and Braitsch doubled to move her to third base. Carey nailed a double to left field, picking up two RBI. In the next at-bat, rightfielder Andrea Davis singled to center field. Junior Jaime White pinch ran for Davis and promptly stole second base. Carey scored on a wild pitch and then White crossed home plate on a double by Barrett, giving the Sooners a 7-0 lead.
The Red Raiders picked up their lone run of the contest in the sixth when Tiffany Harrington doubled, moved to second on a single by Sandy Butler and finally scored on a ball that got past OU's Larissa Foley behind the plate.
Senior pitcher Lana Moran struck out four batters and walked one on the way to her 18th win of the campaign. She has lost just once. Red Raider Dana Yocum took the loss and dropped to 3-9 on the year. She started the game but was relieved by Amanda Renfro after one-third of an inning. Yocum re-entered with two outs in the fourth and finished the game.
Oklahoma returns to action at home this Wednesday in a Bedlam matchup with No. 22 Oklahoma State. The first pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Oklahoma won the first game against the Cowgirls, 4-2, in Stillwater on April 5.
