Three Sooners Produce NCAA Qualifying Marks At John Jacobs Invite

NORMAN, Okla. - Despite less than favorable weather, the John Jacobs Invitational still produced four NCAA provisional qualifying marks, three by the host Sooners.
The women's 400-meter relay broke the provisional mark for the first time this season, finishing second to Barton with a 44.94. Bambi Carson and Michael Blackwood, who have already bypassed the provisional marks, did it again today. Carson won the shot put with a throw of 49-3 while Blackwood won the 400 with a time of 45.78, a season best for him. The fourth athlete to bypass a NCAA provisional mark was Thomas Freeman of Manhattan College in the hammer.
Other Sooner winners included Jimyria Hicks, who ran a season-best 23.97 in the 200-meter dash, Jennifer Fontenot, who took the 400, Alesha Peel who won the 100-meter high hurdles, Jonas Lusk who won the 110-meter high hurdles and tied his season best with a 14.18, LaBoris Bean who won the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a season-best 51.59, Mike Westlund, who took the pole vault title with a season-best 17-4, and Kyle Bookout who won the discus with another season best of 172-0.
The Sooners will split up next weekend with combined event competitors heading to the Kansas Relays, some runners heading to Arkansas for the Tyson Invitational and the rest heading south to Waco, Texas, for the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas.
