Sooners Sweep Aggies

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The University of Oklahoma softball team defeated Texas A&M for the second time in as many days today at the Aggie Softball Complex in College Station, Texas. The Sooners are now 36-5 overall and 2-0 in the Big 12. Texas A&M falls to 20-12 and 0-2 in conference play.

Oklahoma scored its opening three runs of the game in the top of the second as first baseman Lisa Carey hit a line drive double to the center field fence with three runners on base. Second baseman LaKisha Washington, leftfielder Christy Ring and shortstop Kelli Braitsch all scored on the play.

Texas A&M scored its first run of the game in the top of the second when catcher Selena Collins hit a solo homer just over the left field fence.

The Sooners added a run in the third inning. Centerfielder Erin Evans singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Mandy Fulton. LaKisha Washington walked. Evans then stole third base and then came home after Collins tried to throw Washington out stealing second. Washington was caught stealing third to end the inning.

Sooner pitcher Lana Moran improved her season record to 13-0 with her first win in Big 12 Conference play. Moran did not walk a single batter in seven innings in the circle. Amy Vining took the second straight loss to OU. Her record is now 13-8 on the year.

Oklahoma was led offensively by Ring and Carey. Both had two hits in four at bats. Carey drove in three runs in the game.

OU returns to action at home on Wednesday in a doubleheader with Tulsa. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 5 p.m. Big 12 plays continues for Friday and Saturday when the Sooners host Iowa State at the OU Softball Complex. Saturday's game is at 2 p.m. and Sunday's contest begins at 12 noon.
