OU's Barrett Named Big 12 Player of the Week

NORMAN, Okla. - Ashli Barrett was named this week's Big 12 Player of the Week after her performance in the Sooners' games last week. Barrett is third OU softball player to earn Big 12 Pitcher or Player of the Week honors during the 2000 season. Jennifer Stewart was named Big12 Pitcher of the Week and Mandy Fulton was last week's player of the week.

Barrett recorded eight runs batted in and an .833 slugging percentage in leading the Sooners to the OU/adidas Classic championship. The Sooners' catcher hit .444 over seven games. She also nailed four doubles and blasted one home run. In OU's 2-0 victory over Creighton, Barrettt was responsible for both Sooner runs. She knocked in teammate Christy Ring in the first inning and then hit a solo hmer in the third.

Barrett was a First team All-Big 12 selection in both 1998 and 1999. The Oklahoma City, Okla. product leads the team in home runs with five on the season.

Oklahoma owns a 19-1 record and a No. 5 national ranking going into this weekend's NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga.
