Oklahoma Falls to Notre Dame, Beats Louisiana-Monroe

FULLERTON, Calif. -- The University of Oklahoma softball squad defeated Louisiana-Monroe, 8-0, in the first round of bracket play and lost to Notre Dame, 4-2, today in the Kia Klassic. OU finishes the tournament with a 4-1 record. The team's season record stands at 34-5.

In the first game of the day, OU scattered 11 hits to drop the Lady Indians to 14-16 on the year. First baseman Andrea Davis led OU's offensive charge. The junior hit an RBI-double and blasted her third and fourth home runs of the season in three at bats. Junior Jaime White and freshman Erin Evans both recorded two hits in the game.

Senior hurler Lana Moran upped her season record to 12-0. She struck out six batters on the day, which is her season high.

In the Sooners' evening contest, the Fighting Irish used a grand slam homer by catcher Jarrah Myers to score all four of their runs in the top of the first. Oklahoma, which managed six hits, scored both of their runs in the fourth inning. Sophomore Christy Ring singled and reach thrid base on an error by the centerfielder, as freshman Leah Gulla and LaKisha Washington came home. Ring and junior Lisa Carey both walked in the bottom of the seventh, but both were left on base as the game ended.

Notre Dame also upset No. 16 Louisiana Lafayette earlier in the day. The Irish, which is not currently ranked in the top 25, improve to 18-5.

Sophomore Jennifer Stewart's record fell to 16-5 on the year with the loss.

OU opens Big 12 Conference play March 25-26 against Texas A&M in College Station
