FULLERTON, Calif. - - The University of Oklahoma softball team tabbed its third win in the Kia Klassic with a come-from-behind defeat of Nevada-Las Vegas today. With the 10-5 victory, OU won its pool and will move into bracket play Saturday at 9 a.m. against Louisiana-Monroe. The Sooners' season record now stands at 33-4.
The Rebels got off to a blazing start, scoring five runs in the first inning off two home runs. Senior Lana Moran entered the game for freshman Kourtney Davis after one-third of an inning and picked up the win. The San Bernarndino, Calif.-native struck out five batters and moved to 11-0 on the season.
Oklahoma scored three runs in the top of the third on a two-run homer by junior Ashli Barrett. With the long ball, her 13th of the season, Barrett broke the OU career home run record of 27.
After trailing the Rebels for the entire game, the Sooner offense exploded in the top of the sixth inning. OU scored seven runs on eight hits to take the lead for good. Junior Andrea Davis went to the plate as a pinch hitter and tied the game with a two-run double. The Sooners continued their rally with hit after hit and run after run. Freshman Kelli Braitsch capped the innings with a two-run homer, her third of the year.
The Sooners continue play in the Kia Klassic Saturday and Sunday in Fullerton, Calif.
