OU Softball Headed to Arizona

NORMAN, Okla. -- - The University of Oklahoma softball team will travel to Tucson, Ariz., to compete in the Wildcat Softball Classic this Friday through Sunday. The field includes OU, New Mexico, Kentucky, Penn State, Tennesee Tech and the host school, No. 4 Arizona.

The No. 8 Sooners will be looking to improve on their perfect 7-0 season record. The team went undefeated to claim the title at the Texas-Arlington Isuzu Motors Invitational last weekend. Oklahoma defeated fifth-ranked Southern Mississippi 10-1 in the semifinals and downed Arkansas by a score of 5-3 in the final.

OU begins tournament action on Friday at 11 a.m. against New Mexico and faces Penn State at 1 p.m. On Saturday, the Sooners take on Tennesee Tech and Kentucky at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. Oklahoma plays Arizona Sunday at 1 p.m. in a showdown of two the nation's best softball teams.

One of OU's seven victories at the Texas-Arlington Invitational came 5-0 over Kentucky. New Mexico is currently 6-2 and has beaten Tulsa, Texas Tech and New Mexico State. Both of their losses came to Cal State-Fullerton. Tennessee Tech and Penn State will be opening their 2000 seasons this weekend.
