NORMAN, Okla. -- - Sophomore Jennifer Stewart was named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week today after her 6-0 showing at the Texas-Arlington Isuzu Motors Invitational this past weekend. This is the first week the Big 12 has honored a pitcher and player of the week.
Stewart picked up right where she left off last season. The left-hander recorded 41 strikeouts in 35.2 innings of work. She holds a 0.39 earned run average and has walked only three batters this season. In 1999, Stewart was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and a first-team All-Big 12 selection. The Sooners compiled a 7-0 record on their way to the title at the Texas-Arlington Invitational. Oklahoma is currently ranked No. 8 in the NFCA/USA Today poll.
Baylor freshman Sarah Caudle was named player of the week.
OU returns to action this weekend in the Wildcat Softball Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. Teams in the tournament include Kentucky, Penn State, Tennessee Tech, New Mexico and the host school No. 4 Arizona.
