Sooners Host Oklahoma Track Classic

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams will host the Oklahoma Track Classic Saturday at the Mosier Indoor Facility on the Norman campus. Field events begin at 11 a.m. with running events set to start at noon.
Joining the Sooners in the one-day event are men's and women's teams from Northwestern State (La.), Texas Christian, Texas A&M, Baylor, Texas-El Paso, Southern Methodist and Louisiana-Monroe. The women's team from the University of Miami (Fla.) will also be part of the field.
The field event schedule opens with the weight throw and long jump at 11 a.m. followed by the pole vault and shot put events which begin at noon. High jump will follow the shot put and triple jump will follow the long jump events. All women's field events follow the men's event.
The first running event will be at 1 p.m. Prelims will be run in the women's and men's 60-meter hurdles followed by prelims in the 60-meter dashes.
The first final on the track will be the women's mile run which is scheduled for 2 p.m. The rest of the running event schedule includes men's mile, women's 60-meter hurdles, men's 60-meter hurdles, women's 60-meter dash, men's 60-meter dash, women's 400-meter dash, men's 400-meter dash, women's 1,000-meter run, men's 1,000-meter run, women's 600-yard run, men's 600-yard run, women's 800-meter run, men's 800-meter run, women's 200-meter dash, men's 200-meter dash, women's 3,000-meter run, men's 3,000-meter run, women's mile relay and men's mile relay, the final event of the meet which is scheduled to start at 5:05 p.m. All events except for the 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dashes are timed finals.
This is OU's second home meet of the season. The Sooners hosted the All-Comers meet on Dec. 5 and several facility records were broken. Additionally, a number of field event competitors earned automatic or provisional NCAA marks. A total of four provisional marks, two automatic qualifying marks and six facility records fell at the All-Comers Meet. OU's Michael Blackwood set one of the facility marks with a 1:08.77 in the 600-yard run.
"We are ready to get back into competition," said OU co-head coach Jill Lancaster. "We took a break for final exams, then had the semester break and we are ready to be back in competition." Rodney Price, OU co-head coach, agreed. "We've been away from competition for nearly seven weeks and our athletes are ready to go. This will be a good meet to get back to competition with two other conference teams coming to Norman, plus strong competitors from the other schools. I wouldn't be surprised to see more qualifying marks registered on Saturday."
The Sooners will be on the road for three weeks, traveling to meets in Lincoln, Neb., Colorado Springs, Colo., and Fayetteville, Ark., before returning to Norman to host the Sooner Indoor on Feb. 19.
