SOONERS CONTINUE SEASON AT KANSAS' RIM ROCK FARM
The OU men's and women's cross country teams will continue the 1999 season this Saturday when they travel to Lawrence, Kan. for the Bob Timmons Invitational.

Also scheduled to compete are Arkansas, Emporia State, Missouri Southern, Pittsburg State and host Kansas. The men's 8K race will begin at 10 a.m., while the women's 5K race will start at 11 a.m.

"This meet is really a treat for our athletes to participate in," said Head Coach Todd Maycumber referring to the course built right around the Rim Rock farm. "It's a classic cross country course and I am expecting very good things from our runners this week," said Maycumber.

RECAPPING THE HURRICANE INVITATIONAL
OU opened the 1999 season last Friday at the Hurricane Invitational in Tulsa. Both the men's and women's teams finished in sixth place.

The women finished the 2K race with 141 points while the men finished the 4K race with 163 points.

Tulsa finished first in the women's competition with a total of 24 points. Finishing first in the men's competition was Arkansas with 15 points.

The Sooner teams were comprised of several athletes competing in their first collegiate meet.

"This was a learning experience for many of our freshmen," said Maycumber. "We're not going to dwell on any negatives. I was impressed by many of our runners."

NEWCOMERS SET PERSONAL BESTS IN TULSA
Junior Sinead Holt (Dublin, Ireland) and freshman Jason Brown (Meridian, Idaho) led the Sooners at the Hurricane Invitational last Friday.

Brown finished the 4K race with a time of 23:25 and placed 25th. He also received praise from Maycumber.

"Jason Brown will definitely help this team this year. He ran extremely well, especially considering the grueling 90-degree conditions," said Maycumber.

On the women's side, Holt led the team in the 2K race by clocking a time of 13:05 to finish 21st. It was the first time in Holt's career that she led the Sooners in a meet.

Also finishing strong for OU was senior Angie Prescott (Oklahoma City, Okla.), who, despite twisting her ankle badly, ran the rest of the meet and placed 22nd with a time of 13:06.
